Bryson receiving award

L. Sebastian Bryson, Ph.D., Hardin-Drnevich-Huang Professor and chair of the Department of Civil Engineering in the University of Kentucky Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering, was the recipient of the 2025 Distinguished Engineering Educator Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Kentucky Section. The award was presented on Sept. 12 at the ASCE Kentucky Section Annual Meeting in Lexington. 

The award recognizes Bryson’s outstanding contributions to engineering education, research and professional service. A nationally respected leader in geotechnical engineering, Bryson has advanced the fields of landslide hazard assessment, geotechnical instrumentation and infrastructure resilience. His innovative research integrates laboratory testing, field monitoring and numerical modeling to enhance the performance and sustainability of civil infrastructure systems.

Bryson’s dedication to mentoring students, leading transformative departmental initiatives and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, has made a lasting impact on both the academic and professional civil engineering communities. Under his leadership, the UK Department of Civil Engineering has continued to grow in national prominence.
